Inspection

For timber business, third party independent inspection, such as SGS, is not almost applied since there can not ( not ) be clear definition on wood quality.

For sawn timber, there will be two kinds of quality nature: Wood Quality and Specification. For wood quality, all parties concerned must be restraint and flexible, since wood is natural products. For specification, Myanmar Suppliers will comply with the agreed terms and conditions. Some regular foreign buyers appoint some local inspectors, who usually work for the fair quality selection acceptable to the both sides. Most suppliers prefer the fair price with the flexible quality restriction to the higher price with the strict quality control.

Volumetric Amount (CBM or Cu-Ton) - to be strictly complied with

Note - The unit of H.Ton is wrongly applied for sawn timber in many cases. In fact, H.Ton is applied for Logs only. The correct unit is Cu-Ton, which is equal to 50 Cubic-Foot.

For rough sawn timber from Myanma Timber Enterprise(MTE), the grading is executed by the government-recognized graders, so no selection or inspection is permitted.

For logs, the grading and the specification are issued by Myanma Timber Enterprose. All parties concerned accept the Specification List issued by MTE as legal one. The length and girth are even engraved on the surface of the both ends. In fact, those measurement are carried out just after falling in the jungle and so when the buyers check in Yangon just before loading, some may be a bit different. However, nobody can amend them.
